Psalm 36
When Rebellion Starts Quietly

Psalm 36 opens with a sobering picture of what life looks like when God is pushed out of focus. When we lose a deep, gut-level awareness that God sees and acts, we begin to rationalize our sin and quietly flatter ourselves into believing our choices are fine. The psalm then shifts dramatically to describe the breathtaking character of God, whose love reaches to the heavens and whose faithfulness is as vast as the sky. His nature is to overflow with goodness, not to withhold it. Because of who He is, we can bring our specific circumstances to Him in prayer and ask Him to act now, not just in history, but in our lives today. Refocusing on God means replacing self-justification with humility, honest prayer, and a daily expectation that He is present and faithful.
